Asparagus is one of those vegetables that truly shines when it's roasted, but heating up a whole oven for a single bunch of greens can feel like a chore. That’s where the air fryer comes in as a total game-changer. It delivers that sought-after tender-crisp texture and beautifully charred tips in a fraction of the time, making it the perfect side dish for busy weeknights when you want something healthy and delicious without any fuss.

I love seasoning my asparagus with a simple blend of garlic powder and a generous sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. The high heat of the air fryer toasts the cheese onto the stalks, creating a salty, nutty crust that even picky eaters will enjoy. A final squeeze of fresh lemon juice right before serving cuts through the richness and brightens everything up. It's elegant enough for a dinner party but simple enough for a casual Tuesday night at home.

Ingredients

  • Asparagus:1 lb
  • Olive oil:1 tbsp
  • Garlic powder:½ tsp
  • Salt:¼ tsp
  • Black pepper:¼ tsp
  • Grated Parmesan cheese:2 tbsp
  • Lemon:1 piece

Instructions

  1. Wash the asparagus and trim off the woody ends, usually about 1 to 2 inches from the bottom.

  4. Arrange the asparagus in the air fryer basket in a single layer. If you have a small air fryer, you may need to do this in two batches.

  5. Air fry at 400°F for 7 to 9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time. The tips should be slightly crispy and the stalks tender when pierced with a fork.

  6. Remove the asparagus from the air fryer and immediately sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese while still hot.

Tips & Notes

  • Try to choose asparagus spears of similar thickness so they all cook at the same rate.
  • If your asparagus is very thin, reduce the cooking time to 5 or 6 minutes to prevent them from becoming too mushy.
  • For extra crunch, you can add a tablespoon of panko breadcrumbs to the seasoning mix.
