Fluffy Microwave Rice in 10 Minutes - Perfect Every Time

Microwave Rice
Quick, fluffy microwave rice ready in 10 minutes—no pot required.
This is my go-to method for perfect, fluffy rice when I don’t want to babysit a pot. It’s fast, forgiving, and gives reliably separated grains—great as a simple side, a base for bowls, or anytime you need rice without fuss.
You’ll only need a microwave-safe bowl and a few pantry staples. With a quick rinse, a 10-minute high-power cook and a short rest, you’ll have tender rice that fluffs up beautifully with a fork.

Directions
-
1
Rinse the rice in a fine-mesh sieve under cold running water until the water runs almost clear to remove excess starch; drain well.
-
2
In a large microwave-safe bowl (at least 2 quarts), combine the rinsed rice, 2 1/2 cups water, and 1 tsp salt. Stir once to distribute.
-
3
Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe lid or plate (leave a small vent for steam). Microwave on high for 10 minutes.
-
4
Carefully remove the bowl (it will be hot), keep it covered, and let the rice rest for 5 minutes to finish steaming.
-
5
Remove the lid, add 1 tbsp butter or oil if using, and fluff the rice gently with a fork. Stir in chopped herbs if desired and serve.
Ingredients
- Long-grain white rice:2 cups

Tips & Notes
- If your microwave is low wattage, add 1–2 minutes to the cook time; for very powerful microwaves, check at 8 minutes.
- Use a bowl at least twice the volume of the rice and water to prevent boil-over; vent the cover slightly to avoid messy spills.
