There is something incredibly satisfying about a bowl of warm edamame, but why settle for plain salt when you can elevate it with bold, punchy flavors? This recipe is my absolute go-to for movie nights or when I need a quick, protein-rich snack that doesn't feel like a chore to eat. The combination of fragrant toasted garlic and that slow heat from the red chili flakes makes these pods totally addictive, and the toasted sesame seeds add just the right amount of nuttiness to balance the spice.

The beauty of this dish lies in its simplicity and the way the sauce clings to the pods, ensuring every bite is a flavor explosion. It is a healthy alternative to greasy snacks that still hits all those savory, salty, and spicy notes we crave. Plus, it takes less than ten minutes to pull together, making it the perfect last-minute appetizer for your next gathering or a healthy weeknight treat that feels special.

Ingredients

  • Frozen edamame in pods:1 lb
  • Olive oil or sesame oil:1 tbsp
  • Garlic cloves, minced:3 pieces
  • Red chili flakes:½ tsp
  • Soy sauce:1 tbsp
  • Toasted sesame seeds:1 tsp
  • Sea salt:1 pinch

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the frozen edamame and cook for 4-5 minutes until tender. Alternatively, you can steam them.

Tips & Notes

  • Make sure to drain the edamame thoroughly so the sauce isn't watered down.
  • If you want more heat, leave the garlic in longer with the chili flakes or add a teaspoon of sriracha.
  • To eat, use your teeth to squeeze the beans out of the pod and into your mouth, discarding the outer shell.
